In my almost 5 years with ARE, I have seen the direct impact of the work that I do. I have seen clients come through my door with no support, resources, and feeling lost with no where to turn. I have seen them leave with a feeling of empowerment, confidence, and the ability to stand on their own two feet. All they needed was a reminder they are worthy, they are loved, and they are heard.
The goal for me is simple-- to no longer be needed in this work. I wait patiently for the day that there is no more HIV, there are an abundance of mental health resources, there is no more shame, and there is no more stigma. So, until that day comes, I work diligently to provide the multitude of things my clients need to be able to maintain their daily lives. It is my goal to make their HIV care their priority, but also as stress-free as I possibly can.
This work is important to me because every single person deserves to feel like they have a safe space. Every person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Every person deserves to feel supported, and listened to. I know I am making a difference by providing education, knowledge, support, and power to the people I am serving. Help me continue to help my clients find their voice, find their reasons, and end the stigma around HIV and mental health. Health is wealth and knowledge is power. Stigma stops here.
