As many of you know, my role as a member of the Board of Directors for the AIDS Response Effort is a truly meaningful part of my life. ARE provides life changing services to the local community including HIV case management, STD testing, as well as community outreach and education. Additionally, ARE’s new LGBTQ+ center has been growing rapidly, and is the first and only LGBTQ center in the Winchester, Virginia area. This service has been vital for many of us who need a safe and open space to receive support. The LGBTQ Center’s amazing growth has included a library, safe and fun community events, and affinity support groups including a Trans and Gender Nonconforming group as well as a Young Adult affinity group. A new group even includes the wonderfully named Gay-RP for all of those 50 and over.

When I moved to Winchester several years ago, having a LGBTQ Center seemed like an impossibility. Now, not only has ARE provided this support, the organization is thoughtfully expanding what all it can offer. With these services, comes the need for funding. ARE and the LGBTQ center hope to continue to grow and serve the community in increasingly wonderful ways. Your contributions will go to supporting a needed and life saving resource in our community.
