Hello, Friends and Loved Ones! As many of you know, I was laid off last year from my dream job as communications director for INMED Partnerships for Children when it closed its global operations. I had just turned 60 and was not ready to retire, but the months of job searches made me feel old and irrelevant. Fortunately, I placed my fate in God’s hands and committed to go where He would lead me.

I was applying for marketing and communications positions, but when I saw a development director position with AIDS Response Effort, I thought, “Why not?” After all, I had to meet an application quota to receive unemployment compensation, and this was just another application that would not go anywhere.

God has such a great sense of humor. ARE was the ONLY organization to offer me a job—and in a field outside of my comfort zone. “Okay, God,” I responded, “If this is the door You’re opening for me, I’ll walk through it with your help.” And what a BLESSING it has been. I work with the most dedicated and compassionate staff, led by the best supervisor I’ve ever had—and 20 years my junior. More than that, I witness every day how ARE is making lives better for the most marginalized populations in our region—with such love, respect and dignity.

Now, I am appealing to you to support me in my fundraising work for ARE. Whether you agree with the cause or not, they are doing God’s difficult work in the world. I believe that is something worth supporting. May I count on you to stand in the gap with me?
